Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded January 13, 1913 on the campus of Howard University, Washington, D.C., by twenty-two young women. These young women envisioned using their collective strength to promote high scholarship and provide assistance to the needy.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare. A sisterhood of over 200,000 predominantly Black, college-trained women, the Sorority currently has approximately 900 chapters across the United States, Europe, Virgin Islands, Bahamas, and Africa.
The focus of the Sorority is centered on it's Five Point Program Thrust: Education Development, Economic Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness and Involvement, and International Awareness and Involvement.
